A design collaboration with Mingei International Museum
Erik Gronborg | Writings
complements The Erik Gronborg Experience
Design Perspective is excited to share our latest work designed in conjunction with Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park. This 36-page publication, Erik Gronborg | Writings, serves to complement The Erik Gronborg Experience on exhibit at Mingei through March 12, 2017. This exhibition, guest-curated by Dave Hampton, has engaged our minds and warmed our hearts.
Mr. Gronborg, a Danish-born artist and craftsman, is best known as a ceramist. In addition to ceramics, this exhibition however presents Gronborg’s extensive explorations in different media and techniques spanning five decades. Long-time Solana Beach residents, Gronborg and his wife, Irina, also an artist, have integrated their home’s inside and outside environments with artwork for viewing and for living. Beyond his work’s global reach, this large exhibition features many items created for their home and helps the viewer inhabit their daily experience.
Gronborg’s artistic talent includes his essay writings. From the time he attended UC Berkeley in the early 1960s, and began writing for the first time in English, he continued to publish essays, articles and introductions to exhibition catalogs. The publication’s essays provide insight to his creative thoughts and processes. This publication forms the first anthology of his writings.
We encourage you to spend an afternoon at the exhibition and then enjoy one of Balboa Park’s cafes to discuss your experience!
